The spotlight story for this month is of an eleven year boy named Ydnekachew Mesfin who lives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His mother Belyu Tesfaye was married at a very young age of 12 years and had Ydnekachew at the age of 13. His father left when he found that his kid was disabled.

Ydnekachew Mesfin

Mother and her son went through numerous turmoils, social outclass, poverty, diseases and now the kid is fighting his battle alone against HIV and polio in both his legs. He was asked to leave from the school as they were afraid he would fall down often. His mother had to put him up in a different school that costs more than she can afford.  She works as a cleaner at Admas College to pay for her son's school tuition. We learned from the orphanage that Ydnekachew is an excellent student and is the topper of his class. The volunteer team, at a personal level felt the need to support such kids and is therefore sponsoring half of his education.
